The NewsGuild of Greater Philadelphia represents over 220 employees at The Philadelphia Inquirer who create the journalism, social media, advertising, and multiplatform technology that hundreds of thousands of people rely on every day.
Where we've been
Through some of the news industry's most challenging years, Inquirer journalists have kept the region informed every single day — building digital tools that keep readers engaged, and breaking stories that uncover corruption, lead to local and state policy reform, and capture daily life in our communities around Philadelphia.
What's next
We're fighting for a fair contract that protects our journalism and provides real quality-of-life improvement for our members — and we need your support!

Our Demands
2025 Revenue Increase
Last year, bucking decades of decline in a struggling industry, The Inquirer saw its first revenue increase since 2004. As our publisher Lisa Hughes put it: our news organization is worth investing in again. We feel the same way.
Simply put, there is no future to invest in without us.
For our next three-year contract, we are asking for:
Meaningful raises
Pay raises that allow our workers to afford to live in the communities they cover.
Affordable healthcare
Keep our healthcare affordable.
AI guardrails
Responsible guardrails around artificial intelligence to protect the integrity of our journalism.
Inclusive hiring
Improved hiring practices to make our newsroom reflect the city it serves.

Voices
In their own words
"Covering crime at The Inquirer means witnessing the best and worst of Philadelphia — a family's deepest pain, a neighbor's care. Telling stories about the people at the center of it helps the public understand and demand better. The Inquirer prioritizes that work."
"I watched Vietnam, civil rights and Watergate as a kid, and that convinced me that journalism was a path toward a better and more enlightened America. At The Inquirer, I have the freedom to write whatever is necessary to afflict the comfortable, and comfort the afflicted."
"Artists here make impactful, urgent work that provides insight into the human condition, interrogates institutional norms, and challenges oppression in groundbreaking ways — so it's an honor to amplify those conversations for the Inquirer's curious readership."
